A
new Instagram challenge, called the National Identity Card Challenge,
has taken off in Iran. Boys and girls publish the photo of their Iranian
national ID card next to a selfie. The selfie of most of the girls
participating in this challenge is without hijab, meaning that their
real photos have nothing in common with their ID card images in terms of
clothing and appearance. Previously there was a similar challenge on My
Stealthy Freedom page where women would send a photo of themselves
wearing a hooded scarf alongside another photo without any hijab. Most
of those women had mentioned how their passport images cause them
trouble upon leaving Iran, as the passport control agents notice a huge
difference between their passport images and their real selves. We want
to live our real selves.
